Nicene Creed (Revised)

I believe in one God,
the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.

I believe
in one Lord Jesus Christ,

the Only Begotten Son of God,
born of the Father before all ages.

God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
consubstantial with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation
he came down from heaven,
and by the Holy Spirit
was incarnate
of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate,
he suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures.

He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead
and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son
is adored
and glorified,

who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy,
catholic and apostolic Church.
I confess one baptism
for the forgiveness of sins
and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Act of Contrition

O, my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended you. I detest all my sins because of your just punishment, but most of all because they offend you, my God, who are all-good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Your grace, to sin no more and to avoid the near occasions of sin.

He began to teach them, saying:

"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted.

Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land.

Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,  for they will be satisfied.

Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

Blessed are the clean of heart, for they wll see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.

Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are you when they isult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you (falsely) because of me.

Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven.  Thus they persected the prophets who were befor you."

Jesus

The Greatest Commandment

Matthew 22:37-38

He said to him, “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment.  (NAB available from USCCB.org)

First of all, then, I ask that supplications, prayers, petitions, and thanksgivings be offered for everyone, for kings and for all in authority, that we may lead a quiet and tranquil life in all devotion and dignity. This is good and pleasing to God our savior, who wills everyone to be saved and to come to knowledge of the truth. For there is one God.  There is also one mediator between God and the human race, Christ Jesus, himself human, who gave himself as ransom for all.-1Timothy 2:1-6 NABRE @ usccb.org

"This is how you are to pray:" Matthew 6:9-14

Prayer for Government Leaders

I (We) humbly come before you merciful Lord, God of power and might, just and righteous, asking to enlighten with your spirit the leaders of our country.  By your grace, empower your most commanding protection to help our leaders make truthful and honorable decisions.  Bestow the power of dignity and wisdom to those in command over this land.  May they always seek mercy and integrity.  Through way of the Holy Spirit, place in all our hearts the strength to move and take action to service this land in the direction of Godliness.  In the days ahead, help us, O Lord, to put in place leaders that will do your will for all people.  I (We) ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Faithful Citizens

Gracious and loving God, let your Spirit be with us (me) today.
Hear our (my) prayers, and increase in us (me) the will to follow your Son Jesus.
Help us (me) to draw on the resources of our (my) faith as we (I) use the opportunities of our democracy to shape a society more respectful of the life, dignity, and rights of the human person, especially the poor and vulnerable.
We (I) ask this through Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen. Provided by Usccb.org

Prayer for Marriage

God our Father, we give you thanks for the gift of marriage: the bond of life and love, and the font of the family.
The love of husband and wife enriches your Church with children, fills the world with a multitude of spiritual fruitfulness and service, and is the sign of the love of your Son, Jesus Christ, for his Church.
The grace of Jesus flowed forth at Cana at the request of the Blessed Mother. May your Son, through the intercession of Mary, pour out upon us a new measure of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit as we join with all people of good will to promote and protect the unique beauty of marriage.
May your Holy Spirit enlighten our society to treasure the heroic love of husband and wife, and guide our leaders to sustain and protect the singular place of mothers and fathers in the lives of their children.
Father, we ask that our prayers be joined to those of the Virgin Mary, that your Word may transform our service so as to safeguard the incomparable splendor of marriage.

We ask all these things through Christ our Lord, Amen. Provided by: Usccb.org

Prayer before a Crucifix

Look down upon me, good and gentle Jesus, while before you I humbly kneel and with burning soul pray and beseech you to fix deep in my heart lively sentiments of faith, hope, and charity, true contrition for my sins, and a firm purpose of amendment; while I contemplate with great love and tender pity your five wounds, pondering over them within me and calling to mind the words which David, your prophet, said of you, my Jesus: “They have pierced my hands and my feet; they have numbered all my bones.”

For Faith, Hope, and Love

Holy Spirit, open my eyes and calm my mind.  Give me the recollection of the Father’s love, of the Son’s unceasing prayer, of the world as God’s world and of your own presence within me.  Holy Spirit, give me faith.

Holy Spirit, reveal to me the truth of the Father’s unfailing purpose; of the Son’s victory and risen presence; the truth about myself—sinner yet child beloved of God.  Holy Spirit give me hope.

Holy Spirit, give me peace; peace with God and peace with people.  Kindle my desire for you.  Strengthen my will to live and serve.  Teach me and lead me where you will.  Holy Spirit, give me love. Living Liturgy tm, Liturgical Press-Celebrating the Eucharist, Classic Editio

Prayer for Life

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, in you we adore the eternal origin of all life.  Born of the Father before all time, you were born of the Virgin Mary in time, In your humanity and person you sanctified motherhood from the first instant of conception through all stages, for our salvation.  Recall all people to these divine blessings, to appreciate the unborn as persons and to enlighten every human being coming into this world.  In your mercy avert your just anger from the enemies of life, to allow God’s infants to give him glory and to be crowned with the heavenly life of grace.  From the cross you called, “Behold you Mother.”  Amen.

Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; have mercy on us.  For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father.  Amen.

A Parent's Prayer

Loving God, You are the giver of all we possess, the source of all of our blessings.  We thank and praise you.  Thank you for the gift of our children.  Help us to set boundaries for them, and yet encourage them to explore.  Give us the strength and courage to treat each day as a fresh start.  May our children come to know you, the one true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.  May your Holy Spirit help them to grow in faith, hope, and love, so they may know peace, truth, and goodness.  May their ears hear your voice.  May their eyes see your presence in all things.  May their lips proclaim your word.  May their hearts be your dwelling place.  May their hands do works of charity.  May their feet walk in the way of Jesus Christ, your Son and our Lord.  Amen [Loyola Press]

Prayer for the Families of America

We thank you, Lord Jesus, because the Gospel of the Father’s love; with which you came to save the world, has been proclaimed far and wide in America as a gift of the Holy Spirit that fills us with gladness.  We thank you for the gift of your Life, which you have given us by loving us to the end:  your Life makes us children of God, brothers and sisters to each other.

Increase, O Lord, our faith and our love for you, present in all the tabernacles of the continent.  Grant us to be faithful witnesses to your Resurrection for the younger generation of Americans, so that, in Knowing you, they may follow you and find in you their peace and joy.  Only then will they know that they are brothers and sisters of all God’s children scattered throughout the world.

You, who, in becoming man, chose to belong to a human family, teach families the virtues which filled with light the family home of Nazareth.  May families always be united, as you and the Father are one, and may they be living of respect, forgiveness and mutual help, so that the world may believe; help them to be the source of vocations to the priesthood and the consecrated life, and all the other forms of firm Christian commitment.

Protect you church and the Successor of Peter, to whom you, Good Shepherd, have entrusted the task of feeding your flock.

Grant that the church in America may flourish and grow richer in the fruits of holiness.  Teach us to love  your Mother, Mary, as you loved her.

Give us strength to proclaim your word with courage in the work of the new evangelization, so that the world may know new hope, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mother of America, pray for us! –Living Liturgy tm, Liturgical Press-Celebrating the Eucharist, Classic Edition
